How it all began…
Hi! Im Rachel and donuts are kind of my thing, got a minute? Let me explain.
For over a decade it’s been our family tradition to get donuts every Saturday morning. We loved trying all the fun, original flavors from several of our favorite shops in Arizona. When we moved to Vermont during Covid, we learned that small donut bakeries are few and very far between out here. I began to make them from scratch for my kids simply out of convenience. I didn’t realize I would become obsessed with the process. Playing with the recipe and learning the science & chemistry behind it all, I was instantly hooked! We would joke about how fun it would be to start up a donut business and what we might name it (the kids sure had some original ideas…) In my free time I would make mock ups and envision turning our den into my bakery, I started to get really excited at the thought!
Unfortunately for our family, things took a turn in 2023 when my husband, Jordan was diagnosed with stage 4, metastatic colorectal cancer. He spent the next 2 years in and out of treatment. I chose to spend that time ensuring he had everything he needed to recover and that our 4 young children continued living normal, healthy lives the best I could. That meant donuts took a back seat.
Don’t worry though, this story doesn't have a sad ending! As of January 2026 our super hero of a dad/ husband has been out of treatment for months and is back to feeling like himself again!
The hardest thing for me to see during all of this was that Jordan continued to be the breadwinner for our family. He showed up to work in a high stress, extremely demanding job throughout all of this.
That’s where donuts come back into play. Jordan doesn’t have to be the sole breadwinner forever and I get to live out my dream! From that point on everything began to fall into place. I started working on donuts again, tweaking my recipe and my methods over and over. Staying up til 3 am some nights perfecting the art. I began apprenticing at a local bakery to gain even more experience. We turned our dining room into my own personal bakery. I started an LLC and began the preparations to become licensed all in a matter of weeks. It’s been a whirlwind but nothing has felt more right… or tasted more delicious!!
